After just over 8 months of surprisingly pleasant Saturday and Sunday mornings (Mostly!) learning the basics of sculling and the finer points of ergo training, our small squad of 11 to 13 year old boys are making superb progress.

The pressure has been on James and Aaron a little bit but they are rapidly catching up the two slightly more experienced of the bunch and now all are sculling well in the coxed quad and in singles, albeit with floats.

Guy and Tom are showing real promise in the double now and are really getting into the idea of racing starts and sprinting.   We soon hope to find a suitable event in order to have a go at a bit of racing!  Hopefully Burton Regatta on the 12th July may have an event or two. More importantly though, all are still really enjoying the sport and new members are showing interest in joining in.

It really is amazing how quickly these boys have picked things up and the fact that they seem to enjoy it so much makes coaching a real pleasure. It is also very satisfying to know that the extensive equipment the club is lucky enough to have available these days is pretty much state of the art and gives junior members and other beginners a safe and exiting introduction to the sport and helping to maintain interest. Many thanks, on behalf of myself and the juniors, to all those in recent times who have worked hard to provide such excellent facilities.

Thanks also to members who have been helping out on Saturday and Sunday mornings.  It is great having people around to help get boats in and out and to make up the numbers when necessary.

Finally, if anyone has the odd hour or two to spare, why not come and join in! (And if possible, drag away from the Playstation any 12+ year old you might know who might be interested in rowing and bring them with you!)
