I joined the club in 1978, and to the best of my recollection, the current trailer was there then.  Over the years I have had a lot to do with it, one way and another, chiefly welding repairs and suchlike.  The running gear (axles, brakes, etc) was in a parlous state, and Richard Williams (currently Chairman, and then Captain of Boats), commissioned me to replace them (this was in the winter of '05/'06), which I did.  In the usual fashion, this meant that the trailer was then rarely used over the next several years, but the work had been done.  The trailer started to be used more frequently from 2012 onwards, and its general state of decay became somewhat of a concern.  I stripped off the steel sides (which I had welded on some fifteen years previously, and which were now heavily corroded, and replaced them and the rotted out plywood floor with Corex sheet (glorified estate agents board), the latter supported by steel mesh.  I blithely left re-painting to a later date, and we got on with the 2013 season with a serviceable, but unsightly, trailer.

At the end of the season, Rob Thornton (Vice Captain) offered the use of a field barn on his Father's smallholding for a stripdown and repainting, which is what we did.  Rob spent many, many hours on the stripping (many, many layers), and between us we then put on two coats of undercoat, and two of top.  A local printer (Sign & Print, over the river) produced the Club shield stickers that went on the sides (and provided some magnetic sheet so that the club towing vehicle can be similarly emblazoned), and the result is that the Derwent trailer is much remarked upon (Who left that bloody trailer there?), and is the ohnly (so far) painted trailer in a sea of galvanization..
