We started the regatta season in fine style with an entry in three events at Leicester Regatta. First race of the day was J15 2x in which Guy and Tom defied expectations and beat a Newark double meaning that they had now three events to race between them. Guy gave up his single slot has he had a heavy cold, meaning Tom could have a go against his better judgement! He did extremely well, reaching the semi final beating a Burton Leander sculler in the first round after being down at the halfway point. He sadly lost in the semi to the losing finalist, a lad from Champ Thames in Cambridge.

In the remaining 2 rounds of the J15 double, Guy and Tom easily prevailed to win their first pot of the season, but the rapid turnaround at the end of the day for the final of J16 2x proved a little too much and they narrowly lost to a Newark double.

On then to Shrewsbury regatta for another excellent days racing, with James and Callum racing as a J15B 2x for the first time. In an excellent race which they thoroughly enjoyed, they were sadly beaten by a double from Athlunkard boat Club in Limerick.

Guy and Tom raced in the J15A 2x and easily made the final, beating Kings School Worcester and Royal Chester in the process. The final proved heavy going into a strong headwind and the lost to two brothers from Grange School Northwich. A good effort nevertheless.

Last weekend, Jonty bravely endured the 2000m Notts City Regatta Course in two events, and remarkably survived to be a very worthy 4th in the Novice 1x, and although not placed in the J18 1x, he was very close to the majority of the pack with some extremely fast juniors.

This Friday, Guy and Tom are in action again at the national Schools Regatta where we hope to do well.

Training continues relentlessly and we now have several new members who are becoming competent scullers and who may also race this season.
