Dear everyone,

Now a new year beckons (Happy New Year! by the way), and life at the club continues (thank goodness).

A bit of really good news: Following a suggestion of mine, Cameron Webster applied for a rowing scholarship at Shrewsbury (my suggestion was more general, I knew that several rowing schools offer sixth form scholarships, the choice of Shrewsbury was his).  Well, he didn’t get it, being monstered in the ergometer test (1k at 24 strokes a minute), but they liked something about him, as he has been offered an academic scholarship that will enable him to go.  In my heart of hearts, I think what they saw of him on the water (never mind the erg) may have had some influence on their decision, by we’ll probably never know.

In any case, congratulations to him, and I look forward to preparing him for next September’s adventure.

Boxing Day Paddle & Pancakes went well, with 15 people paddling, and £85 taken for the Bill and Margaret Fund (don’t ask me how £2 each totalled an odd number, ‘cause I don’t know).

Business as usual next week.

Yours,

Lewis
